City building codes exist to prevent a uniformed and unaware public from dangerous structures. Prevention is better than the cure, and a deck that holds a graduation party is better than one that doesn't. It may save a few bucks, but running a deck through the county at the least is a second pair of eyes and at the most is a life saved. |

Regular lumber is prone to termites, rout, and mold. Decks, basements, and anything touching the ground is built with treated lumber or the "green stuff". The wood is treated to help withstand the weather and prevent rout. |

| Screws |
Decks that are nailed will look great just long enough for the builder to get paid; a season after, and the boards are pulling apart, squeaking, and gapping. Nails slide out with the constant expanding and contracting of the lumber as it goes from climate to climate. Screws are made to bite the wood and stay tight years after construction. |

All of our stairs are custom cut on site to guarantee a flat and smooth tread with a predictable landing. We build everything from custom houses to simple decks and we have never installed a set of prefabricated stairs that felt "right". In addition we always install risers on each deck stairs that helps cosmetically but more importantly reduces the amount of bounce. |
