Building in a downstairs basement is not the same as remodeling in a dry environment. We spend a lot of time to ensure we have the proper vapor barriers installed to hedge against water damage after we are long gone. The next step, after the environment is dry, is to focus on the design aspects. The tricky part of designing a basement is dealing with low overhead and granting access to pipes and wires for future alterations or plumbing clogs, all while not broadcasting the fact that you are indeed in a basement.
